Project Description
Al Fresco is a new design in collaboration with H2 for a Mexican client, currently under construction at ICT Yachts in Turkey. Working closely with the H2 design team Laurent Giles developed the hybrid semi displacement hull form (developed from earlier design such as Dalvina) to meet the Client’s exacting requirements for accommodation volume and performance. After preliminary hull design development Laurent Giles conducted a full tank testing programme at the Southampton Solent University test tank. The final hull incorporates partially tunnelled propellers to improve efficiency and maintain a low draft. The hull exhibits excellent performance in the semi displacement range (tested up to 30 knots) and is able to cruise at displacement speeds of 11-12 knots very efficiently. Full seakeeping tests show that the hull can maintain full speed in poor sea states and cope with the roughest seas at reduced speed. Laurent Giles also designed the principal construction plans and designed the FRP sandwich laminates to Registrano Italiano Navale (RINa) rules for composite yachts.
