ROBERT C SEAMANS Project 1223

OCEANAGRAPHIC RESEARCH VESSEL

Project Description

Robert C Seamans is a brigantine rigged sailing school/research ship, designed by Laurent Giles in 1998 for the Sea Education Association (SEA) for oceanagraphic research and sail training as part of their ‘SEA Semester’ undergraduate programme. She is equipped with hydrographic winches, bathemetric, biological and geological sampling equipment, a wet/dry laboratory, and a computer laboratory. Having previously designed Flagship for Young Brittain a 65m Barequentine for the Sail Training Association Laurent Giles were uniquely placed to design this traditional rigged though, scientifically speaking, state of the art vessel, providing a full design package including full rigging and spar engineering design. She is designed to American Bureau of Shipping and United States Coast Guard Sailing School Rules. Robert C Seamans operates mainly in the Pacific, cruising down the West coast , out to Hawaii and Tahiti and as far afield as New Zealand.
